Don Abdul Latif Sheikh (Gujarat): Profile and Business



If you are outside of Maharashtra and Gujarat and not a keen watcher of underworld world, you might not have heard about Abdul Latif Sheikh. However, he is one of the most dreaded gangsters of India who was the henchman of Dawood Ibrahim in Gujarat.
Shahrukh Khan latest movie RAEES is more or less based on the life of Abdul Latif. And, hence he is becoming a known person throughout India.



Rise of Abdul Latif

Abdul Latif made an entry into the crime world as a bootlegger. As you might know, there is a prohibition in Gujarat and alcohol isn’t sold there. Because of this prohibition, there is a huge market for people selling illicit liquor. Abdul Latif made a fortune out of this. Soon, he came into contact with Dawood Ibrahim who asked him to look after D World business in Gujarat.

During 1980s he was called Terror of Gujarat. He made an entry into the real estate and betting world and made lots of money there. It was a child play for him to kill anyone, even powerful politician like MP Rauf Valiullah (allegedly murdered by Abdul Latif). 


Abdul Latif had killed almost all Hindu criminals in Gujarat. In fact, he was one of the most hated figures among Hindus. He was having close links with Congress leaders and it is widely believed among political analysts that BJP succeeded in making strong foothold in Gujarat because of Abdul Latif. 



Encounter of Abdul Latif

Abdul Latif was arrested in 1996. At that time, the then BJP CM Keshu Bhai Patel was termed as Hindu Hridaya Samrat. One year later, when Abdul Latif tried to escape while being taken to jail from a court, he was shot dead. That was a crucial moment for the BJP. Hindus took a sigh of relief throughout Gujarat and credited party for ending of one the biggest tormentors of Hindus in Gaujat after independence.
